Zur geografischen Lage muss man wissen, dass die Stadt Iquitos im Osten Perus ueber den Amazonas einen Seehafen mit Anschluss an den Atlantik besitzt und dass noch vor bis etwa hundert Jahren Gueter aus dem Norden Perus auf dem Landweg nach Yurimaguas (Provinz Alto Amazonas) transportiert wurden, und dort auf Flussschiffe umgeladen wurden, die zum Seehafen Iquitos fuhren.
