Siegel der USA
Vorderseite:
-
Überall die Zahl 13: 13 Pfeile. 13 Blätter auf Olivenzweig. 13 Oliven.
- Was das
13 Stufen. Es sind
13 Einheiten Gestrüpp vor der Pyramide.
- "ANNUIT COEPTIS" hat ebenfalls
13 Buchstaben und bedeutet:
"Er hat das begonnene gesegnet".
- "NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM" (lat:
After World War II there was
active Jewish support for the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. And Jews continue to play an important part in human rights advocacy. Many Jews, like many members of other religious traditions, affirm that human rights are an expression of their faith.
Rabbi Daniel Polish acknowledges that the phrase "human rights" is a modern juridical notion. However, he argues that "the system of values and ideas" on which human rights are grounded
"are among the beliefs which constitute the very core of Jewish sacred scripture and the tradition of ideas and practices which flows from it. The idea-set which is represented by the phrase "human rights" derives in the Jewish tradition from the basic theological affirmation of Jewish faith."
The "core theological affirmations of the Jewish faith," which require recognition of the sanctity of the individual and the equality of all as children of God, "serve as the undergirding for the Jewish commitment to the idea-set we call 'human rights'."
Polish asserts that the history of the Jewish people has brutally demonstrated the necessity of the freedoms and protections, which are designated by the phrase "human rights."

The underlying structure of the Universal Declaration was introduced in its second draft which was
prepared by Rene Cassin. Cassin worked from a
first draft prepared by John Peters Humphrey.

His childhood was touched by tragedy as
he lost both his parents to cancer;
he also lost one of his arms in an accident while playing with fire. Humphrey attended a boarding school where he endured teasing from other students;
it is claimed that this was instrumental in building his character and compassion[?].
Humphrey applied to Mount Allison University at age 15 and was accepted. He transferred to McGill University and lived with
his sister Ruth who was a teacher in Montreal.

Humphrey
remained with the UN for 20 years. During this period he oversaw the implementation of 67 international conventions and the constitutions of dozens of countries.
He worked in areas including freedom of the press, status of women, and racial discrimination.
